I have to share this! My cousin is a fishing guide, specializing in saltwater fly fishing. He had been out for 17 days with clients, and decided to take a day off on Father's Day to "fun fish". He landed a 118# bluefin...on a %#*#$$! flyrod!!!! That's a heap of good eatin'!
I'll post photos if I can figure out how to do it.

Spoke with him yesterday...he was at Provincetown.
Says he has 70 pounds he's going to smoke and send some down here to NJ. He's a pretty well known chef as well as a professional saltwater flyfishing guide. His smoked tuna is SUPER! Had some when we visited him in MA last month.

Perry - he ties his own flies, and then has this sixth sense about where the fish are...he never quits, and tells his clients "we don't go home until we get fish".

He's got a great website, but posting it would be a no-no. His name is Gil Berke. we're real proud of him!

WOW! That looks like fun. I mooch(drift) for salmon using a converted #9 flyrod and a baitcasting reel. That's real fun, too, but I can't imagine a blue. How much line does his reel hold?
 
And is there any way to reduce or eliminate the lactic acid buildup in tuna that have fought long and hard?

I got turned on to Tuna a few years ago and it really is nice fish to eat. I enjoy the texture and meatiness of tuna unlike most flaky white fish. I would love to go Tuna fishing from my boat but to take get out into the open water is a trip enough, no less any distance offshore is obviously a bit much for a 25' cabin cruiser. We talked about towing up to the cape and heading out from there on vacation, but this year we are booked for vacations.

I was looking into chartering a boat out of LI or NJ this fall to try and hook up with some Tuna passing through. Anyone have a recommendation for 4-6 guys?
