Help!! I have a 22' Thundercraft, and noticed a foul sewer smell above the engine compartment last evening (while removing the camper top for a short trip out). Last year at the end of the season I had the holding tank pumped out but it appeared that there was only solids in the tank, like all of the liquid had evaporated or (ouch) even possibly leaked out. Is it possible that the tank (I assume is a poly tank) is leaking? Or could the liquid have actually evaporated through the vent holes? Any advice on where to start would be great!

Sure it can leak. it is unlikely that liquid evaporated. You can start by inspecting everywhere for any stains or liquids. Dirty bilge water will also stink. If the pump out is nearby you could add water to the tank and pump out while looking for any new leakage. You probably will want to flush it before removing if it is leaking anyway. You dont say where you are but it can easily crack from winter freezing if not properly treated.

Thanks, I'll try adding some water. It does not seem to have the odour all the time, so I am wondering if it may just be venting itself after all.
