I just read that I qualify for the above license.

As I looked on their site, it listed freshwater, salt water, etc.

Do any of you know if they are they saying I get both? Is it either/or?

I wonder if I would need any other tags?

Anyone have this license?

Thanks, Dave

Dave,

A Calif. sportfish license is for both salt and freshwater fishing. You will have to purchase a Bay and Delta stamp and may have to get"report cards" for other species like sturgeon, abalone, etc. (some cost others do not) Hope that helps.

Thanks Dave. I found out today I will have to fill out a series of forms, then get the doctor to sign them.

I politely suggested the State of California could save a lot of labor by compiling a single, central database from data supplied, willingly, by handicapped people. What a waste of time, money, resources, etc. If a person does not want their info in the database, that is their business. Since I filled out paperwork for SSDI, DMV, Parks & Rec and some others, it sure seems like it would speed things up too.

Of course some people won't want their info in a gov't database, heck, who registers all of their guns, grenades, etc. :)

I did find out that if you or I have our boat out and a buddy is fishing from it, we will not receive a citation.

I got the paperwork signed. I don't plan on eating the fish, so which stamps would I need?
I figure I may go fishing in the Delta and maybe the Bay (Ayala Cove).

Hmmmm, if I have a 5 yr license, will I have to buy a stamp every year?

What else do I need to know about Stamps, etc.

Thanks Charlie, I asked Fish and Game and they said I need stamps for various fish. I understand that, but if I catch and release, I don't understand WHY I need a stamp for that.

I think I am a little old fashioned in my thinking since my friends used to eat what they caught.

I guess people fish for pleasure and relaxation now, since most of us have enough food.

I need to email my friends in Oklahoma/Texas to see what they need back there.

OH YEAH, my buddy had me out on his expensive bass boat ... sitting up on a seat 3 or 4 ft high when a Cotton Mouth crawled over the side into the boat. I was all for taking his expensive gear and beating the snake silly, but he didn't seem to care, says it happens once in awhile and the snake would leave pretty quick. And it did. My last time fishing ... 1978.

Dave,

I can't speak for everyone, but I fish for pleasure, relaxation and for food. Wild salmon is a lot better for you than he farmed crap. You can also gather fresh mussels on the coast, catch Dungeness crab, striped bass and halibut. If they don't close down our coastline completely, I consider fishing a very important part of our families food supply. Matter of fact, I am going home tonight to enjoy some fresh Dungeness crab that we caught yesterday.

got it taken care of. Bay and Delta Stamp, Steelhead stamp and a book that tells me which fish to catch and release and ... now all I have to do is hit the garage sales and find some gear.

We have a friend up here who is giving Chris some stuff, and he suggested the garage sales as an inexpensive way to get started.

I thought about Craigslist, but I have no idea what items are worth or even what lures to get.

Steelhead ?? What do you use?

Sturgeon? ??
