I have a 1978 7.4 litre 454 with a mechanical fuel pump.
I was down at the boat today, and noticed that the fuel pump has a copper in, a copper out to the carb and a missing tube connection. (I assume this is the fuel pump. Not a mechanic, mind you...Upside down mushroom looking thing bolted to block near the water pump.)
Meaning, there is a "L" shaped tube connector on top of the fuel pump, but no tube hooked up to anything. The remnants of a flexible tube are visible, but obviously the tube rotted out.
Where did that tube lead to?
The reason I ask, is that the condition is the same on the other engine.
However, on the first engine (stbd), when I "nudged" the engine, it looks like fuel spit out of the "tubeless" hose connection. Not good.
I had gas dripping down the block.
Is this indicative of a faulty fuel pump, or does this hose connection supposed to connect somewhere?
Sorry if it is a stupid question. Obviously, I have a problem that needs to be fixed ASAP!
