Would this trip be safe in a 23 foot Pro-Line with a single outboard? Assuming all is in great shape, is this the type of trip people do in single engine boats? I now much depends on sea conditions, but I thought I would ask the general consensus.

What other special issues are there taking your boat to Bimini? Passport, marinas, etc. Is there much to do for a weekend on Bimini?

Thanks

John

if the weather is fine and nothing indicates it's going to change for the return trip, why not ? that often means the winter months are out because of cold fronts and the northerly winds that kick up the stream.

you have to pay a $300 custom fee in the bahamas ($150 for small boats), fill out a bunch of paperwork... You need to get a US customs decal before leaving ($25?), call them when you return and clear immigration in person with your passengers.

The beach and cristal clear water is the main attraction over there... that's really the main reason for going.

Better to go with other boaters.
23' boat = 150.00
Be able to stay over if weather goes bad.
Not much to do unless you like to fish and snorkel. Should do it at least once for the adventure and decide if you would like to return. I believe Passport is required.

23' boat = get a room. Things to do in Bimini: get drunk at the sand bar, hang at the Big Game Club (pool for the kids), enjoy Joe's conch salad (actually it's conch ceviche), go fishing, go snorkeling, have picture taken in ruins of the Compleat Angler (sadly). Get a slip (and room) at Weeche's - party next door all night if you still can...

Sounds fun. Going with other boaters would be a good idea. Thanks

Just don't hook up with any Americans loading contraband...
Waters are beautiful and Da booze flows mon! Party hardy!

John, Are you planning to make the trip with family, wife, kids?? What would you like Bimini to be like, shopping, playgrounds for children, or more like what Sylvain and captchas describe? Not trying to be nosey, just hoping your answers would help ROs that have spent time on Bimini to let you know if they think you would enjoy the trip.
Do you (and family) have some adventure in your blood? Able to put up with mechanical prob. with boat, sea may get a little rough, If so, GO FOR IT.
Do I sound like a Scardy Cat? No Way, Wish I was goin along.

Ensure children are well trained for the adventure. It IS a small boat and I emphasize the need to go in company with others who can help out. A 3-boat team effort would be ideal. Children will really enjoy Bimini. Check weather carefully. So many return trips get nasty.

Sounds fun. It would be me and my girlfriend with a couple buddies. Probably 3 or 4 on my 23 Pro-Line. The tiki bar and kicking back on the beach sound like fun to me. I would for sure stay over night assuming the weather was going to be good on the return day.

Call Bob, he's itching for a high sea adventure. He's got a 21' B/R...not self bailing like yours but what the hell...
