The event is the weekend of May 26 finishing up with Fireworks on May 27 at night.

I went to the Event website, but they do not say where the Fireworks will be launched from. I assume from a barge, but trying to decide if I will be on boat or land to view.
For July 4, there were 2 barges, one near Pier 39 and the other near Crissey Field with mirror image shows. I suspect they don't have the budget for 2 barges for this event.

Anyone know?

For anyone who is interested. I got a reply from the Event Org and the fireworks will be over Crissey Field.

As far as I'm concerned, the state has been stealing from everyone using both the bay and sf bridge since the money to pay for the construction was recovered...probably over half a century ago.

Charlie - somebody has to pay for those tollbooths. :) (and important government projects like $20B tunnels to divert the Sacramento River to Fresno)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think any toll money is used out side of transportation projects. And, a big chunk went to fund the new Bay Bridge over the last several years.

I'm pretty sure that the funds collected on the GG Bridge is only spent on THAT bridge. Of course, the directors and employees probably make huge salaries. And the bridge has to be painted year-round, weather permitting, to prevent it from rusting away!

A significant amount of the GG Bridge money supports other transportation (buses and ferries).

If the fireworks are over Chrissy Field you won't be able to see them from PIER 39. I have heard that the show is supposed to be pretty impressive. We are planning to watch from the water.

kgd---thanks for reminding me. They support the buses and ferries to help relieve the congestion on the GG Bridge, so that is beneficial to the bridge.

Watching the entire spectacle from your boat will be awesome!

The Golden Gate Transit District is a great example of inefficiency and over reach. The bridge itself is profitable (at a toll rate way below what they actually charge) and they p**s away that and more on subsidizing their other "nice to have" projects. Few of which are necessarily bad in and of themselves, but the history of gross mismanagement is long and deep.

I also remember back on the 50th, they opened it all to pedestrians, no cars, and there ended up being real concern that there was way too much weight on the bridge. Probably won't see that again!

Thanks - pretty much knew that.
At this point, we plan to go out as well. Do you know if they will allow anchoring?

The Notice to Mariners issued by the CG will have that info a couple of weeks prior to the event.

Do you know any good anchor spots?

I would guess anchoring off Fort Mason would be OK. I doubt there will be significant boat traffic. We are going out but probably won't bother with setting the hook.

thanks flutterby, but I can't get you link to work

kgd - you don't think there will be many boats?
