I started the season a-ok with the head's (read: tank's) odors in check. That all changed when the lake was closed for 3 weeks last month (flooding). I have a raw water flush into a Jabsco electric flush w/ macerator. Anyway, we don't use the head for #2. A few weeks ago, the vent from the holding tank emitted a terrible rotten egg odor whenever the head was flushed.

I went to the pump out, emptied it about halfway--and then dumped about a cup of bleach into the toilet bowl, and flushed until the tank was full again. I then pumped the tank empty, and then flushed it through again with roughly another 15 gals.

So far, so good. The previous owner had also installed an EarthSafe tablet system. I'm really not convinced that it's all that-- but at least my bowl water is blue! :-)

Anyone see any issues with this? Like I said, I'm pretty sure I flushed the bleach out thoroughly.

p.s. I also use a few capfuls in my freshwater tank, but that is only for washing and the transom shower.

MSD's work better without this restriction. Use it for "all your needs". None of the enzyme/live bacteria systems will work if you use it for only "#1".

I have no idea what the earthsafe system is, but if it is an enzyme/live bacteria system, the system definitely will NOT work until -all- of the bleach is completely cycled out of the system.

I don't have any live bacteria system though. As I understand it, the EarthSafe system is meant for the incoming side only.

This biodegradable compound cleans and lubricates your head and hoses with each flush, leaving a smooth, stain-resistant coating behind that helps control debris buildup.
