I purchased and installed a Garmin GPSMAP 400 Series Chartplotter last season. I know that I'm not using it to near it's potential. I was wondering if there's a company that offers training or classes on GPS set up, useage, way points, etc. On water with my boat/GPS would be ideal. Or even a local BE member...GPS set-up, lunch and drinks :). BTW - Boat is at Tomes Landing Marina in Port Deposit, MD during the season.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe you need to get a video. Google it for price/ availability.

The Coast Guard Auxilliary offers a course on navigating with a GPS.

Who did you buy it from? They should be able to run you through it. The Bennett Videos are usually pretty good; BoatFix probably still sells them and could get it for you at a good price. The CG Aux and Power Squadron classes are excellent, but not product specific, great at teaching you the principals of electronic navigation.

Thanks for the replies guys. I did take a CG Aux. GPS course, but it was too generic. I bought the GPS from Boaters World in Newark, but they've since closed. I'm going to order the model specific video from Bennett Training. I can even snatch a portable DVD player from one of my kids and also watch it on the boat...hands on.

Thanks again [:-thumbu]

I hope you took a real navigation course too, you know charts and things. GPS is okay but it goes out many times.

Grip-
We boat the sames waters. Our boat's at HdG City Dock. Don't think I'd be much help with the GPS but if you want to raft up sometime, I'm game!

Yea, it would be nice to meet up. When we stay near HDG or Port Deposit, we'll go to the Flats or Sand Island. We also run to the Sassafras alot and raft up accross from the Dupont Estate.
