Half Moon Bay Shake Down

Ya better get started Judy, pretty soon it will be time to start thinking about winterizing, and then you'll be preparing the outdrives again. It just one nasty cycle.

I know that Pete!!! This has been a terrible boating year for us so far! Miss you two! Love to Brandy & Pups!

rb2@gr5t Dave... Not sure if you realize this but a Marina is a business and their intention is to make money, so I ask why would you be surprised that your "Friend" was not welcome to tie up to the dock (for free) too run into town to purchase provisions.

Q - Was he going to fuel up or eat at the resturant..? I presume the answer is NO!

Maybe if he would have purchased a few gallons from the marina they would have been ok with him going into town for provisions.

So why should anyone feel that it is ok to dock for free at a private marina (even if it is only for a short time).

In regards to HMB, Maybe next time go in with he intention of buying a few bags of ice or something and then maybe the Marina wouldn't feel like they are being used!

Dropping someone off at a dock is not "using" a marina. Common courtesy would have been to allow them to do so without demanding money, and hoping that your goodwill would bring you business (buying ice) in the future. I wouldn't give HMB the time of day.

So far, we have not heard from the "membership" so I presume it was a pure shakedown by the dock boy.

Yup only some of you :D

Damn I miss that activity. But in reality, since we haul annually, all we miss out now is the antifreeze part of it. Everything else is the same ol PITA.

Sweetness This guy wasn't looking for anything but advice. What you are missing is he wasn't looking to tie up at the dock in fact he did want to tie up at the dock but no one was there to speak to so he tied up to find someone to ask where he might find a place he could go to buy provisions. The guy never gave him a chance to speak he just cursed him out and sent him on his way. Just so you know if you head upstate a bit this is much more common place there are free town docks for boaters hoping the will spend some money in town. I have even been to a dock for a grocery store up near Albany. Asking a follow boater for advice should not elicit such a response.

And what about me, am only a sex toy!!!!

Hey Butch, we all have our cross that we have to bear. Being a sex toy may not be the most rewarding position, but someone has to do it.

To get back on topic, I don't believe marinas such as PennyBridge or Haverstraw would have any issue with somebody doing a touch and go to pick up or drop off a guest. Just a good business practice.

I can think of worse jobs in the world. Being a sex toy has it benefits for sure!

Maybe not too you but maybe too HMB...
I am not trying to defend them but you don't know, maybe you were the 10th boat to "Just drop someone off".

Here is another way to look at it... Your a Lawyer so you should be able to relate..
You drop off your guest and as they are walking on the docks they trip on a cleat, bang their head, fall in the water and drowned.

The family of the victum sue the marina and they are screwed for "Common Courtsey"

Bottom line is HMB is a private marina and you, nor I nor anyone else who is not a member, has the right to "Just drop someone off".

Right... keyword here "Town Marina" both HMB and Tarrytown are private yacht/membership clubs... And how do you know this person at Tarrytown is a "Fellow Boater"? For all you know he could hate boaters..."

Also, what are you saying here: "This guy wasn't left for anything but advice." Sometimes I find it difficult to follow your posts.. Just saying.

LMAO

Leigh, if they walk down the dock from land and trip, they could sue, does HMB charge every person who walks on the dock $25??? They have a lot more liability after they charge you the fee, than if they let you go "at your own risk".

Does HMB management even know what the dock boy is doing? Do they condone it? Do they share the fee with the "members"???

Butch is a on roll!! Hmmmm...yummy! ;)

See you B-Dock beauties tonight!

Sweetness This guy wasn't looking for anything but advice. Keep in mind I never said this guy wasn't willing to pay to dock while he went shopping, he certainly didn't expect to stay at the gas dock. What he was looking for was advice on how and where he might be able to do this.

And you're right the fuel dock attendant may hate boaters and that would pretty much sum things up.

We had the same thing happen last year. We were anchored in Croton, I took the dinghy over to drop the kids off (with their grandmother also). I don't recall how much it was, maybe $10. At first I was shocked, then after thinking about it, I thought it was fair.

I see it a few different ways. I wouldn't want people pulling into my driveway to let passengers in or out of their car. But the marina is not a private residence either. $25 does seem a bit steep though.

I think it is B.S. personally and would avoid them like the plague. And I hope others would too.

We were hit up for $15 bucks last weekend. Came in on our dinghy to take our pup for a quick walk.
Last year the were voted "Best Marina in Northeast"
Anyone who read that article had to say What a joke and a SCAM! ( talk about outrageous voter fraud!)
