Belmar Marina

Gas 3.68 per gallon

DIESEL 3.66 per gallon!!!!!!

Back down below gasoline where it belongs!

(OK, so both are still too high but getting better)

Any hint as to where Belmar Marina is???

One would guess Belmar.

Granted it is south of the Hudson River but you may get there someday! :)

Doesn't seem to make too much sense to drive 100 miles to save a few cents per gallon, so I don't really see the relevance on the HRCC forum.

$1.15 per gallon is more than a few cents Mike.

I guess it makes as much sense as talking about your trip to the Channel Club.

Feel free to move the thread to the NJ forum if it bothers you so much that I'm trying to have a conversation about fuel prices with other people I boat with.

Let me see. Here at RYB we have diesel at 5.19. Down there it's 3.66. That's a difference of 1.53. I think I want to move to Jersey!

The difference in price is more than a amazing Dan. I saved almost $200 on the last fill. May have to find a few 55 gallon barrels and load up the cockpit ;)

John
Diesel is $2.00 more in Huntington Harbor & $1.00 more in Port Jeff!

I wonder if Port Washington is still at $5.90 like they were the 2 times I was there this summer. Just checked the calculator and it's almost $450 more for my average fill up if done at PW vs Belmar.

If this keeps up the LI marinas are gonna starve for transients, or be taken over by sailbotes.

Geez, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today!

Maybe we should do a poll, how many HRCC's go to the Channel Club for a getaway (heck, a bunch of guys from your very own marina are going this weekend) vs how many HRCC's go to Belmar to fill up with fuel.

Spent the night on the boat and woke up feeling great!

Would be a boring poll but to start it off we are at Belmar now and will be at the Channel Club with the marina group this weekend.

FWIW - Just took a look at the plotted routes SP 2 CC vs SP 2 Belmar and time wise they plot out exactly the same! Granted CC is closer mile wise but you don't have to deal with a long no wake zone.

For those that might consider a trip to Belmar to checkout the improved municipal marina we have very mixed feelings about the place. Nice cement floating docks, great fuel prices, and fair number of restaurants within walking distance. 8 long block walk to the beach with no pool at the marina and the current when docking can be downright scary! The town is under going a lot of change for the better but has more work to do.

As a stop over on the way further south for the night we can say absolutely. As a single destination trip the jury is still out.

Well, from my admittedly singular perspective:
1. Boating on the Hudson since 1968.
2. Regular reader the HRCC forum.
3. Keep my boat on the Hudson, although a few hundred yards south and it's Upper New York Bay.
4. Very often cross Raritan Bay for better fuel prices, and would like to see good fuel deals
posted. Also happy to see good fuel prices posted on the mid and upper reaches of the
Hudson too.

Safe and Happy Boating!

To put my two cents in, Belmar Marina is in Shark River Inlet.
I've been there three time this season and had an incredible adventure each time.
The ride there and back has been outstanding including one trip back starting before dawn and watching the sun as it rose in the sky.
Totally awesome.

That said, I wouldn't go there just for fuel....:-)

For the record we didn't go there "just for fuel". Hell the whole reason for my post was that this is the first time in a long time that I've seen diesel cheaper than gasoline like it was for many years!!!!!

There have been a few other people from our marina that went to Belmar this year and there were at least 3 others that were supposed to go but had to back out at the last minute.

For anyone that is going to Belmar you really want to try and time your arrival for slack tide as the current there is some of the fastest I have ever seen!

Had dinner at a Latin restaurant last night called Vivas. Very good and recommend it highly. Tried Kleins the night before and was disappointed.

Left this morning for the Channel Club and the clouds all cleared away as we arrived! Beautiful weather.

Belmar marina is my home port. Fuel is generally less expensive there for 2 reasons - 1. - High volume - the party boats get their fuel from the same tanks as the fuel dock uses. Typical usage during the summer is around 10,000 gallons per week. 2. - since it's a municipal marina they are limited as to the amount they can charge over their cost.

FYI - latest delivery (last Friday) caused the price of diesel to rise $0.20 to $3.869....
