This year lake hopatcong is being lowered 60" and I would like to take a sight seeing trip on the hudson. The plan is to put in above manhattan. The purpose of this is so we could go south and if it is to choppy we could go north. I have several freinds who have put in at liberty state park but the only choice from there would be to go north. I have been on the ferry from weehawken to manhattan and it can get very busy. If anyone can make a suggestion I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Eric

Eric, your profile says you have a 34'er, if that is the case putting in at Liberty shouldn't pose a problem. You can go across the harbor and up the East side of Manhatten or straight up the river, a 34 should be able to handle whatever chop may be going on.You may be better off looking for a launch ramp over towards L.I. Sound and then coming back under the bridges. Or run over to World's Fair Marina this weekend and catch the last games at Shea, that oughtta get your blood boiling!

I think when I filled out my profile That spot was for age not boat length and I can't figure out how to update my profile. Anyway my boat is a 2007 Rinker 246cc. I am not concerned about the boat "handling" the chop it is more about my guests. I will look into your suggestions. Thanks, Eric

There is a launch ramp right under the George Washington Bridge on the New Jersey side.

Yeah, the Fort Lee ramp is right under the George Washington Bridge and there is an Englewood ramp just north of that, then Alpine north of that. My suggestion is either Fort Lee or Englewood, so you have close access to the East River via the Spuyten Duyvil bridge. Gives you many options for the trip.

Isn't the road going to the park under the bridge really steep and windey?

In those areas I would expect that to be the case regardless. The geography flattens out the further south you get.

There is no ramp at Alpine - there is one right under the George Washington Bridge. There is another at Liberty State Park in Jersey City - just south of Liberty Landing and very near the Statute of Liberty.
