"Let's "Relieve that Sinking Feeling" Please, come toast the life of
Herb Hickman (Blackfin) at Sportsmen Yacht Club on Sunday, 30 July,
2006 at 1300 hours.
"This will be an informal, comfortable affair (Herb hated ties).
"Come enjoy the ferryboat Sausalito, feel the brisk breeze off the San
Joaquin river and watch the sailboats up from the Bay find the sand bar
off West Island while you are sipping a cool one at the bar, or sitting on
the north deck.
"We are planning a pot luck brunch followed by a sharing of our personal
memories of Herb. If you can, bring a simple appetizer or dish;
something Herb would have liked (high fat, high cholesterol, high calorie, high
sugar).
"Remember your fondest encounters with Herb and share them with Liz and
all of us "Herbies". If you ever "got even" with Herb, please share that
also, even though it will probably be a lie or exaggeration. Herb was a
Delta Icon, certainly a legend in his own time, often known as Mr.
Delta. It seemed he never slept and always monitored the radio. He
was only a radio or phone call away for anyone needing help. We all felt
secure knowing Herb and Liz were there.
'There is limited guest docking at the Sportsmen Yacht Club and there
will be people available to assist you with tie-up, please call on the radio in
advance on CH.16 and switch to CH.68.
"The club has recently installed a chair lift for those needing help
with the 23 steps.
"Thank you to Sportsmen Yacht Club members and their Commodore, Chuck
Carroll for the use of their facility where Herb and Liz spent many happy
hours. The Yacht club is proud to help honor our friend, Herb Hickman.
