Hi George. Hope you're well. You talked me through a problem I had with my Volvo a few years ago. Very grateful for your help.
I've changed boats now, gone with Monterey. It has two Mercruiser D4.2 diesels. One of which I'm hoping you can give me some advice on.
It taps on tick over. When I take the revs over 1000 it goes away. I would'nt be too worried but its getting louder as time goes on. I was told its a hydraulic tappit. How does a Hydraulic tappit work George? Can I get to it from the head or the sump? Hope you don't mind me asking, I see you've shifted forums. You gave me such good advice last time I thought I'd try my luck again.
All the best George. Hope to hear from you.
Paul

I think it's been 6 months since George posted anything on this forum.

Paul, George is no longer affiliated with Boatfix or this forum. Maybe you should post your question in the engine section and help from those in the know......

I guess that's why he hasn't been around since early spring. Where did he go to? I thought he was one of the principals of BoatFix.com

This is bad news, George was a wealth of information. Was this formally announced?

I see to remember Les talking about it in one of the forums.

George was the primarly reason I purchased product. He would help out whenever needed. We own boats, boats are expensive toys. Its not often someone like George comes along and provides his expertise. I guess thats the way of the world these days.

I just purchased a remanufactured GPS unit from Boatfix.com which is on special. I received an email from Les announcing this special. Great price! I do not know if this pricing is available to anyone or just for returning customers......

Thanks Les

I don't think there has been an appreciable loss of service / knowledge under the revised ownership. On the contrary, support staff has been increased.

Yes, now we have Sibley. Heck, he even called me at home once, unsolicited, to discuss a product. Never got that kind of interest from any retailer.

George was one-of-a-kind as far as technical knowledge and application. That cannot be duplicated.

My only advice is to do some home work for application and compatibility. If need be, contact the manufacturer of a given product and ask them. Who would know better?

A little home work in advance will also save grief and aggravation by guessing or "it looks the same". Products are constantly in a state of flux, revisions are constant...what worked today may not be the same the next time.

Yup, I just received an email advising me of my order shipping and giving the tracking number. Thanks Sib!

Mike called me once too to discuss a possible alternative to the product I had order. His suggestion was right on and just a few bucks more then my original order. The phone call probably cost BF more then the additional cost to get what I needed.

"The phone call probably cost BF more then the additional cost to get what I needed."

Good business, it will come back to BF ten fold.

Mike has also reached out to me; I think Mike is an asset to BF.

I rarely price shop anymore. I just go ahead and order from Boatfix. If they don't carry an item, then I do my homework, price shop and order some place else. But Boatfix is my automatic first choice! And yes Mike does a great job! And I see that Boatfix's customer service is getting more and more proactive since Les took it over. That is always good for business!
