The Admiral and I have spent 6 years at our current marina (a member-owned yacht club), and we're thinking that's about 5 years too long. Thus, we're on the hunt for someplace to move the boat to on or around 3/1/10. We would like to stay on the western shore of the bay, somewhere between Stony Creek and the Magothy. At this point, I'm very open to suggestions (just no yacht clubs please).

Thanks!

Kurt , some thoughts from a little south!!
Our first choice has always been Annapolis Landing Marina. We lost our slip there when that boat deal was going on, and moved south to Shady Side Chesap. Yacht Club. ALM cters to their slip holders,,watches things well during storms, and the dockmaster, is a woman that has crusied every year, and decided to stay north this yr. Understands boaters and boats. Place is clean, good pool, and fuel/pump-out. Jabins just up the creek along with Port Annap. are OK, but both working marinas.Stones and some dust.
With your speed, some choices on the south river are possible. Gingerville yacht basin ( just before south river bridge) was recently purchased, and the owner is doing the right things to have a good spot. Well and lift to pick up your cat also.

Thanks Dusty. We stayed at ALM one time a few years ago. It is a nice place. I believe the dockmaster is Alison?

I'm not sure if we want to go all the way to Annapolis from our home in Carroll Co. But we're keeping our options open at this point.

Dusty...do you know what the slip rental fees are at ALM? I checked into Mears Annapolis some time ago I if recall it was like $12-13K for a 50' slip.....

are you guys paying $12,000 to $13,000 for a 50' slip ? please tell me that's a type-o

I just checked a few months ago, cause thinking of movin back, and it was 11K for a 50ft. Much better down where we are, but when you start to add the club fees, elect etc. it dosen't end up a lg. difference. Chesapeake harbor is the same price, and Port A and Jabins, is slightly less. They had 2 remaining, but when it comes to Annapolis, it becomes a marina owners game.

Kurt,

I have been in a marina for the last 3 years the meets your criteria. The Atlantic Marine Resort has worked very well for us; Andy and his staff has invariably been great. During our first year there they discovered that their forklifts could not safely handle our boat, so they used their travel-lift every weekend to put the boat in the water. For the last 2 years we have been in one of their lift slips.

Their fuel prices are always reasonable. The small harbor seems exposed, but even during the worst conditions on the bay the harbor has been dead calm. The only complaint I have is that the approach channel is a bit shallow at low tide; I sometimes see as little as 2 feet below my keel.

I'll be their again next year.

Mike

Another recommendation for Atlantic Marine Resort. We just bought our Carver Santego in October and kept it in a slip there for about 6 weeks till we pulled it for the winter. They have been very accomodating to us, and my kids really like the beach and the playground. We got there too late to enjoy the pool this season. I really like AMR's convenient location on the Chesapeake, though Mike is dead on about the approach.

In the spring, we plan to move to Pleasure Cove Marina, not too far away. They can handle our boat in their boatel (AMR's forklift can't quite handle us), and they seem like a nice marina. Hope the boatel saves us a few dollars not having to treat the bottom. We shall see.

Mike & Paul,

Thanks. I've heard good things about AMR, but there are some issues that prevent me from going there. For one thing, I think they require all boats to be out of the water for the winter (ours stays in as we use it from time to time even in the off-months). They also don't have any storage for our HUGE trailer, which is something I'd like to find at the same place I keep my boat.

Oak Harbor is going to be my fall-back plan. Pleasure Cove is nice, but way too far up Bodkin for my tastes. As soon as I get more time, I'm going to start looking at facilities on the Magothy. That location would be a nice change for us.

Not sure about staying in the water over the winter, but I did see a boat in the water last week when I was there. Maybe one of their new lift-slips would work for you. Gets your boat out of the water all year, but can be ready to go in just a few minutes.

Since they had open slips last year I would think they would be willing find room for your trailer.
