hey fellas,

Last season I spent a weekend at the inner harbor and I anchored out right next to the aquarium in the area where they have that rental pedal float things. I prefer to anchor out down there so I don't have to tie up and worry about someone coming onto the boat while I'm out. I took the dingy in - hit the bars and went back out to the boat. Well that water taxi was haulin ass right past me in the moring and had the boat rocking. Then the IH patrol boat told me I had to move it in to the imaginary boundary b/t the two pieces of land on either side. He said that I'd have to stay in there to anchor. Then all those pedal floats were coming right up to the boat. SO.. any other place to anchor in the IH besides tying up? I guess some people can tolerate those people on the pedal floats but I was ready to show them the H&K .45 - people were running right over my rode!

//end rant.

Thanks!

I've seen boats anchored in the area between Harborview and Domino Sugar and nobody appears to bother them there.

Also a little farther out I believe you can lay the hook in the area between Balto. Marine Center and The Anchorage without a problem.

I can't say if either spot is really "legal" but I have seen boats there.

Wes, you're supposed to say "just get a slip at the centrally located and secure Inner Harbor East Marina" :-)

Actually, I've seen other boats anchored down near the aquarium. This is an interesting topic to look into. I'm sure there are restrictions for traffic flow so there's got to be documentation somewhere. Perhaps a call to the harbor master?

Hey Kurt, I was a little afraid of breaking a forum rule..if there is one. ;-) By the way, welcome back from your trip.

I have noticed that the "Downtown Baltimore Harbor Master" can usually be reached on Ch. 16 and they do a pretty good job of directing boaters where it's okay to anchor in the inner harbor area.

If I get a chance tomorrow I'll call them and try to get some solid information to pass on to everybody.
