I have a 1997 Carver 355 ACMY that I have owned for 15 years. My water tank is aluminum and it gets drained every fall. I inspected the internals of the tank during a water gauge replacement this spring, and it was clean. I have a screen filter upstream of the pump that gets cleaned every fall. My tank is filled with city water that is chlorinated. The cold water smells fine, but I am getting a sulfur smell from the hot water out of all the faucets. Is something going on inside my hot water tank? This is the first time since we have owned the boat that we are getting this smell. Any help would be appreciated.

There is quite a bit on the web about this and it has to do with the anode in the water heater reacting to bacteria in the water. While the inlet water is chlorinated I would not expect it to be all that effective after traveling down the dock, through your hose, and sitting in the tank/heater for a while.

I have looked in the past for an anode on this hot water heater and have not found one. The hot water heater is original (1997), and it is a Seaward, 11 gallons, 120 Volts, 1500 max watt, Model # S1100 H96, Serial # 836123. I will do some more research on this heater. Thanks.

I have found putting a cheap bottle of vodka in my water supply helps get the smell away. Good luck

If that doesn't work, add even more vodka. It still might not work, but you will likely care less.

:D

( Just kidding. check anode and check that the electric heating element is undamaged )

If you have a Carver, you really should (Also) join the Carver Yacht owners website. Lots of us 355/356 owners over there.
