How Do You Flush?

I'm getting ready for the Spring and I figure the most important issue for me (IBS) will be "How to use the toilet". The boat is a 92 Maxum 2300SCR with a macerator and what appears to be a hand pump of some kind. I do not want to pump this stuff overboard. Can someone list the steps involved so that I can understand how it works. I would also like to post the instructions on the door for guests. In the past I seem to recall that even a paper match can present problems for marine toilets.

After use:
Flip gray switch to the LEFT
Pump handle 6 times
Flip gray switch to the RIGHT
Pump 3 times

I laminated that note and kept it on my old boat that had a manula setup.
 
"Do not put anything in the head unless you have eaten it first!"

Make sure that all the women guests understand that under no circumstances are they to deposit "feminine hygiene products" in the head - or you will be taking it apart and un-winding the string from the impeller!
 
as to pumping this stuff overboard, indeed you don't want to... it's illegal and fines are pretty stiff !

you need to check the setup on your boat... the discharge from the head shoudl go into the holding tank. there may be a Y valve to divert "stuff" directly overboard, if so make sure it's in the correct position (to the holding tank) and MUST BE locked. not locking it could also be a fine if boarded.

your tank can be emptied via a pump out fitting on deck or with a macerator pump. that cant' be used within 3 miles of shore (or in lakes) and again the valve MUST be locked.

to pump out at the dock, open the pump out fitting, slowly to make sure the tank is not under pressure (that can happen if the vent is clogged), connect the pump out nozle and turn on the pump out.

also, chekc if you have a charcoal filter in the holding tank vent line. if so, they need to be replaced every few years or if they got wet (overflow), otherwise you may endup pressurizing the tank when flushing or collapsing when pumping out.
