In the Upper Chesapeake (Chesapeake City) this time of year without ruining the bottom. I am going to bottom paint, but just don't know how long I have...a day, a week??

Sugar, on the Chesapeake Bay it can vary by location, temperature, and even year to year. Last year was brutal, this year not much better. When bay water temps are in the 80’s as they are now, 2 weeks is pushing it for marine growth. What puzzles me is your term “ruining the bottom”. In my experiences marine growth can be removed and does not “ruin” the bottom, it is just how much work you want to put into the cleaning. Jerry

yeah, just scrub it in the water before hauling out if you get some growth, shoundt' he too bad up north... at least not as bad is it is here. if you run it and scrub it once a week, barnacles won't have time to take hold

Three years and running for me. Of course, I am in a boatel rack system. ;-)

If you're going to paint the bottom anyway, and you don't care if you have a glassy-smooth bottom, then it won't hurt to scrub. Remember to protect the running gear (drives and tabs).

As Grand Slam suggests - two weeks at the most, and you'll have growth. If you plan to wet store, then I would recommended to barrier coat first and paint the bottom. Its the off-season now, you might be able to save yourself some $$$ if you do it now vs waiting til end of season haulout.

Have you delivered the boat to Chesapeake City yet, If not, can Judge Yachts do the bottom prep and paint for you? If not, you might inquire of Black Dog Boat Works in Denton across the river?
