Macy's announced that this year's fireworks will be on the Hudson again at midtown. While I think it would be neat to watch from the water, I'm a little worried about doing it in my 23ft bowrider.

What's the concensus on fireworks viewing from the water? How (if) can it be done safely?

If they zone it off like they did last year, it's a total waste of fuel and time.

I found last years thread and read the rules. Did they end up letting everyone anchor? If not, it's a complete non-starter for me in my little jet boat. Station keeping with that thing is just not done.

A lot depends on the direction of the tide before & during the show - if you are on the side sweaping towards the fireworks it is complete chaos. Try to be on the outgoing side.

Can you see the fireworks from any of the Marinas?

I was planning a 3wk trip down from Lake Ontario this summer, but now I am having second thoughts.

You can seen them from Liberty Landing, and any of the other marinas south of the GW Bridge on the NJ Side, or from 79th St. Boat Basin. If coming by boat, you can expect a 3-4 day minimum stay requirement - and book EARLY!

I wondering why they are doing it on teh Hudson again. I'm not complaining considering, my marina is on the Hudson. It is a real pain when you can't anchor. I've done it. It's a lot of work and whoever is at the helm can't enjoy the show.

Bowline, you anchor right under them.
