My wife and I just got back from a 5 day trip on the Hudson River aboard Voyager. My folks were kind enough to watch the boys (with a little help from my older daughters and our nanny), so we could have a little relaxation time. If you don't want all the gory details, you can skip to the link at the end with pictures but here's a few teasers for you.
If you want to hear all about our trip, then read on and check out all the pictures at the link below.
On Day 1 we left Glen Cove and headed west toward the city. We turned south as we approached Manhattan and headed down the East River to New York Harbor. We rounded the Battery and headed North up the Hudson River, anchoring just beyond the George Washington Bridge for a B-B-Q lunch. We then continued North to Haverstraw Marina where we had dinner with Al Prisco and his wife. Aside from some spicy crabcakes, a good time was had by all.
On Day 2 we continued up the Hudson River past West Point, Worlds End, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie and finally to our destination, the Roundout Kingson, NY., which is on the Rondout Creek, a tributary of the Hudson. In our marina, we partied aboard a 75 foot luxury megayacht that was sponsoring a weekend bash in Kingston. The guys who chartered the boat worked for Guinness and it was cold and on tap aboard their boat.
On Day 3 we explored the Roundout Creek with the dinghy and went by dinghy into town for a nice meal. After lunch, we explored the town and headed back to our boat for a lazy evening of relaxation.
On Day 4 we met up with Dan (Boatbum) and his wife and and spent some time aboard their 43 foot Hatteras motoryacht. Later that day, we left and traveled the Rondout Creek to the Hudson River and turned south to start our journey home. We spent the night at Haverstraw Marina again.
On Day 5 we continued south down the Hudson River to the Spuyten Duyvil. We headed east down the Harlem River past Yankee Stadium and turned east into the East River, where we went past Hell's Gate and into the Long Island Sound. In the Sound we were met with strong winds and big waves. We took several waves over the bow and a few up on the bridge, soaking us completely. After boating in fresh water for almost a week, the taste of salt was a bit of a shock.
All together, we put a little over 200 miles under Voyager's hull. The only problem we encountered was hitting some drift wood on the way home near West Point. The slight vibration on one side means that prop will need to be tuned, but it's not that bad. This was a great vacation and one we'll be repeating in the future.
