The day will come that we pull the boat for the winter. When do you riverwise Hudson folk recommend we plan the last run and put her up?
 
I am dropping mine off nest weekend. No time to use her now with the new born. Hopefully next year will bring more time on the water and more trips since we did none this year
 
Next weekend is a great weekend to run the River, traditionally, as the trees nearest the shore will be finally turning color. However, after the dry autumn and now the hurricane force winds Lord knows what will be left on the trees...

We'll be out on the water next week, and out OF the water the following...
 
We're going out today to warm the engines so I can change the oil. I'll let you know how things look up here but I suspect it's not bright at all yet. Things were just starting to turn on Monday when we came up from TT.
 
I'll run into November, winterize at the last possible moment. keeping her floating this winter so there will be no haul out date.

We still have time.
 
Way to go Jonathan.

So we were out on the river today and nothing much is changing. Even the mountains to the northwest are still green. Perhaps there's a bit of rust and a bright tree here and there but it's still at least a week early to peep if you ask me.
Maybe next week but perhaps two weeks will do the trick. Your mileage may vary... :D
 
The change seems to be running a few weeks late this year - does it feel that way to you, Dan???

PS - we saw you guys coming in on Sat while we were passing over the old 9W bridge - your boat looked small from up there [:-mischievous] !!!

Thats about the time we come out. One of the last ones so they can get to her in the spring so we can get in for the early fishing...
 
Are you going to winterize your boat yourself?

Are you doing the winterizing? You good at it, know what you have to do?

If you are good and you can winterize quickly then you can jsut play it day by day and when it gets cold you can do your thing.

I wouldn't wait too long if this is the first time your doing the winterizing as you will be spending too much time to try and figure it all out.

Winterizing an '87 2450 is a piece of cake. Used to own the same boat. Single small block I/O, no hot water. Pump the head, drain the water tank (each only 13gals) add some pink stuff to each and you are done with the ship's systems. For the engine, drain block, drain mainfolds and you are good. We used to also remove the thermostat housing and fill block with anti-freeze, but you can just drain if you want to continue to use the boat. When you are ready to put her down for the winter, change engine oil and I/O lube.

My advise was pretty abbreviated, but basically what you need to do. The OMC manual that came with your boat (hopefully you have it) details exactly what you need to do to your engine/outdrive, I would most definitely use that as your guide. It is very easy to drain the engine and prolong your season before you do a full winterizing job.
