My 42 year old boat passed yet another insurance survey and with some work this spring, we'll be back in the water in early May. We dock in Norwich, CT but you'll see us at BI in July for a week, we hope. If you are there, just look for the only wood boat. We'd love to see you.

My 53 year old body passed another physical exam! When are you planning to be in Block?

Hogan,

Glad you passed your physical. We'll be at Payne's at BI the week of July 6. 42 year old Chris craft, Green hull, you can't miss us. Cocktails are served at 5 PM. We salute the sunset, whenever that happens, then off to dinner or, if the Commodore has something good, you are welcome to stay and enjoy. She usually does have something good.

Chris -

Can I correctly assume you're at American Wharf? Really enjoyed my four night stay there last July. A world-class facility for certain.

I was thinking of going to American Wharf this summer. Is it easy to navigate all the way up the Thames? Do you go by Mohegan on the way up and how far in advance do you need to book it?

Ron -

The Thames is easy to navigate. As always, follow the chart and stay in the channel (narrow at times) and you will be fine. We were traveling with a 50' motor yacht which had no difficulty at all. It took 90 minutes to reach American Wharf from New London Harbor and was a beautiful, peaceful run with no other boat traffic. You do pass Mohegan Sun along the way...

I went in July when fuel prices were at their peak (paid $5.25 at Port Jeff before heading to Norwich) and there was not a lot of activity on the water. We were there for four nights and were two of only a few transients there - it was VERY quiet and, while we had reservations, I could have showed up unannounced without difficulty. There's obviously no telling what it will be like this summer but the staff was extremely helpful and accommodating and I doubt you will need reservations months out if that's your concern.
I got the impression that the marina used to be the center of a lot of activity. It is a very nice facility with excellent, floating concrete docks. There is a good, open-air restaurant right on the water as well as a nice pool area. The town of Norwich is quaint (in parts) but very depressed. The marina offers a free shuttle service to and from Mohegan Sun. They have a good website with lots of info.

Cheers!
