Impellers on a 32 Montego? First Timer

I am attempting to change the impellers on my Montego. Wondering if any other Montego owners can share some advice.

I started on the stbd engine and got the hose clamps completely loose, but cant get the inlet hose off and can't see how the out hose can come off without taking bracket off of engine.

Haven't attempted port engine, but it looks like loads of fun.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Strbd is the easy one, as you probably noticed already. Its been a while since we had our 3257 but I remember getting the pumps off was not a treat. Just resign yourself to remove as many parts as necessary to get them off. You should also try to rent an ambidextrous spider monkey to get the port pump off.
 
I got the stbd one done last weekend. After doing this, I called the mechanic for the port one. What a poorly designed pump, mounting system, and overall setup!

While I was in there, I cleaned the bilge, built a teak battery tray, and made some boards to span the stringers to make work in the engine compartment easier and cleaner.

Chef, the boards to span the stringers is a smart move. The previous owner of ours had set that up in our bilge.

The pump, mounting system, and the overall setup is not bad on my boat. What makes mine a breeze to work on is that it's a single engine boat with tons of room in the engine room. The issue is the boat builder not designing the engine and stringer system to make the sea pump easily work on by novices. While I'm not trying to defend Merc, I would not soley put the blame on them.

The water impeller pump is probably the biggest reason I would not want Merc engines...I would most always get Crusader or Volvo inboards over Mercs for servicability.
