Indian Slough Closing to Waterskiing?

I haven't posted many times here, but I have to comment on this one. Having a designated area for skiing and wakeboarding will only cram more people into a smaller area. If you look at the inherent risks with skiing and wakeboarding, then have "everyone" boarding/skiing in tighter quarters...... You get where this is going?

How can limiting these activities to specific areas solve non-existent accidents involving skiers/boarders?

That's exactly what I'm getting at. If this passes, everyone will move to an already crowded Victoria Cut to the point that you'll be able to walk across it. Even though it really isn't a designated zone, it is one of the few good places left for boarding/skiing so by default it becomes one.
 
By fixing one problem more are created. I sure hope some of our politicians read this and stop creating new ordinances and laws and just leave well enough alone.

Doesn’t our law enforcement have enough trouble just enforcing the existing laws and ordinances we already have?
 
I'm not in favor of any new laws, but on the other hand, when I've been on-hook in a nice quiet slough for few hours and then am suddendly overrun with skiiers flying back and forth and generally ruining a nice quiet afternoon - I can see why some people would get upset. Just this weekend I saw a boat with their skiier in the water while another ski boat zoomed past without even slowing down. OK, so no one got hurt this time, but that was an accident waiting to happen. If people would use common sense then there would be fewer problems, but who uses common sense these days?!

I have experienced that too! Onetime we were anchored in an area which apparently the skiers considered "theirs", so they kept circling around us, creating huge circular wakes. Rather then call the sheriff and assert our rights, we just pulled up anchor and left. So they won. The jerks. That kind of behavior is what gives all waterskiers a bad reputation. Same thing with PWCers. They aren't all bad, but a few give all of them a bad name!

BTW, skiers know that other skiers do not slow down when passing a downed skier in the water. If they did slow down, the skier would also go down. I agree it is frightening to watch! That is why the boat with a skier or tow rope in the water must hold up the red flag as a warning for other boaters to watch out!
