OK it's that time of year for me and I need to renew. I currently have a Boat US Yacht policy on both my Carver and my FourWinns runabout. I called Geico, and they don't insure either one of my boats and I asked what do they insure. The response I got tells me they are cherry picking only the boats that are least likely to file a claim. I then called Progressive after a friend told me about his coverage and how happy he was. Progressive won't insure my Carver as it is more than 15 years old, but will insure my FourWinns but for more money.

Who else covers older boat that are in very good condition, recently surveyed and currently insured?

Thanks,

Gnarley

If the boat is more than 30 years old Haggerty may offer a good deal. When I got a quote from them for my Chris Craft Commander it was about $200 less than Boat US. Since I would have to pay for a new survey it was not worth changing last year but I can get an updated quote anytime just by requesting one by e-mail or phone as they have all the details on file.
the also do insurance on older and vintage automobiles.

I was with Boat US before. I have my insurance now through my Farmer's agent and the policy is through another company, and inculdes towing at no extra charge.
If you like I'll give you my agents telephone number.

Check with Travelers. They beat boat us by almost half.

Oops, I didn't notice where you are? If Travelers doesn't cover the area try Sea Tow's Insurance Carrier they came in 2nd.

Gnarley,

Do yourself a favor and call Gary Claussen at Twin Rivers Insurance in Antioch or on the web at www.boatinsuranceonly.com Gary is a real nice guy who is really knowledgeable and represents a number of insurance carriers. He will give you three quotes and point out the strengths and weaknesses of each policy. He saved me a lot of money and another friend who claimed his carrier couldn't be beat, switched quickly when he got the Twin Rivers quote. Tell Gary I recommended him; it shouldn't cost you any more money. ;-)

I second the idea of contacting Twin Rivers. You'll be amazed at the price difference, and they make it all very easy.

Who ever you use, be sure to get coverage from a company experienced with marine policies. The "home and auto" companies are not the way to go in many casualty claim situations. BoatUS and Twin Rivers both are very experienced in marine salvage issues. The "All-Farm" companies, in my experience, can leave you wanting.
