94 Carver Voyager and I want to update the window curtains and the carpeting. What kinds of window covering have you upgraded to and how do you like them? How do I get the carpet up and what kind of flooring did you install?
 
I went with curtains on my 27 Montego and replaced the carpeting with cherry wood flooring which matches the color of the teak pretty well. We also recovered the v-berth/dinette cushions with a contrasting material to the curtains
 
How do you get the carpet up? That is my greatest fear in this project. I have floor hatches that run the full width of the aisle.
 
Take some pliars at a corner of the carpet and start pulling. Certain areas of the carpet will be glued down such as your forward areas but the main salon would probably be stapled depending on which Voyager you have. I just redid my carpet last season and although it took a while to do and really get the hang of it, it was a simple job.

$280.00 for all new carpet and my own labor was a pretty good deal!
 
Mine was all siliconed in over fiberglass liner. No hatches, so I was lucky
 
Anyone use teak flooring in the interior? Any products that you used that you would recommend?
I would like hard surface floor in the cabin. Not really looking for a home type floor or vinyl. Are there teak/holly 4x8 sheets available?
 
I did my entire houseboat with teak flooring and it looks really nice. Glued it down with adhesive caulk from a tube (not the best choice). It looks good but it IS susceptible to wear from sand tracked in, and needs to be oiled from time to time.

If you can find flooring you like it's probably easier than trying to cut, fit, and handle 4x8 sheets.
 
My hatches are all carpeted over. I am pulling up the carpet this winter and putting in bamboo planks. It is darker, contrasting the lighter wood already there.
 
If the carpet is glued down. Use a multi tool. It will cut right thru the old glue and you can lift up the old carpet with ease. Check out Plasteak, made in Copley Ohio. Easy to install. You might have to add a spacer to hatches to compensate for carpet thickness. The also have trim for the hatches.

I'm sure the carpeting in my 37C was installed by a person that owned a staple manufacturing plant !
 
I never could keep the carpet clean in my Carver 406, finally replaced it with engineered hardwood. Alot
of cutting and took some time, but worth every bit of it. Now six year old, no problems. And yes, getting up the
old carpet was NO fun
 
Pulled up the carpet last night. Gelcoat/fiberglass under it except for the hatches. No staples, just glue. Now I have to choose the replacement. Still leaning towards lonseal teak/holley vinyl or amtico.
