Summer 2013 cruise. This year we went West.
I am finally getting around to posting our trip this year even though our season is over here on Lake Erie.
We started on 7/3/13 and our first stop was Mentor Harbor Yacht Club. Those of you from our area remember the first 3 weeks of July had lots of rain and storms and our first day was no exception. We traveled through lots of rain that day.
That evening some friends joined us and they traveled with us to Vermilion.

Tall Ships were in Cleveland
Entering Edgewater Yacht Club

We took the dinghy down the Cuyahoga River, revitalization has a ways to go
EYC clubhouse

7/7 – 7/8
Off to Vermilion
Entering Vermilion
We stayed at the Vermilion Yacht Club
7/9
Headed to Cedar Point Marina. We stayed one night at CP, the weather was real iffy with thunderstorms and they closed the park twice but we did get to spend some time in the park and enjoyed the shows
Approaching CP
CP entrance and fuel dock
7/10 we headed over to the Paper District Marina in downtown Sandusky, in its second year this city run marina is a great spot, a couple blocks from downtown Sandusky this place is a must stay. At $1.00 ft for overnights it's hard to beat. Our original plans were to only spend one 1 night but severe storms including tornados rolled through the area and the lake blew up and we ended up spending 4 nights.
Cute restored tug boat by a retired coastie. What a neat way to putz around the bay
7/12
We took the Jet Express over to Put In Bay
Cool place on west side of island.
This was a Friday and the early birds were starting to fill up the docks
7/13
We were having an early lunch when all these boats started arriving at the Paper District marina. Turns out it was 6 boats from Cedar Point and included Boatered alum SLW, RamSport47 and DogDaze and their friends. We had discussed our trip on Boatered before leaving and it was great to actually meet.
RamSport's new boat
DogDaze
SLW fourth from right
7/14
After a wonderful bloody mary breakfast on SLW's boat we headed out. Our original plan was to work our way home on the Canadian side of the lake but after 4 days in Sandusky we decided to stay in the US and stop at all the ports that we skipped over coming this far. We headed out for the short trip to Huron.
Entering Huron
Huron Boat Basin, another great stop and only $25 for an overnight
7/15 – 7/16
We headed out for Rocky River and the Cleveland Yachting Club. Close to 100 degrees that day. We couldn't wait to get to their pool.
Entering Rocky River
CYC, great place and very friendly people. This was the first time we have stopped here.
7/17
Headed out to the Chagrin River and the Chagrin Lagoon Yacht Club. Another hot day and very buggy.
Entering the Chagrin River
7/18
Made the short trip to Fairport Harbor
Entering the Grand River
We stayed at the Grand River Yacht Club, enjoyed their pool and had a great dinner at Pickle Bills. Here is where a little boating luck struck us. We arrived on a Thursday and planned on staying 2 nights and then heading to Geneva Start park Marina on Saturday where we going to join a rendezvous of 11 sailboats from our home club of AYC. Well, Friday morning I checked the forecast and made the decision to move to Geneva that morning. Friday night there was a huge storm that hit the area and flooded the Grand River, wiping out docks, sinking boats and ripping off the circle bar from Pickle Bill restaurant. There was damage at GRYC where we had stayed. Dodged one there!!
7/19 - 7/20
Headed to Geneva Start Park marina where our grandson joined us for the rest of the trip. Geneva rebuilt their transient dock area and we were the first boat to use it.
The lake got real rough and the rendezvous didn't happen…we were a rendezvous of one!
Our grandson wanted to help
7/21
Last 10 miles and home…
Even spidey was glad to get home!!
