jabsco electric conversion failing to prime

During summerizing, haven't been able to get this thing to prime, so it's discharging but not pulling raw water.

Yes, the seacock is open.

I followed the instructions from the manual as I understood them... Disconnect the intake hose from the pump, disconnect the hose that goes to the toilet where it meets behind the bowl, backfill said hose with water, then move dial to wet flush for 10 seconds. Put the thing back together and............... still not pulling wany water.

Any ideas?
 
You'll probably need to replace the intake impeller, refer to your parts list. It has two rubber impellers that are both the same. The intake impeller is the upper one, closest to the operating knob.
 
Vic, I'll try replacing that impeller. I did take the top off and looked at the impeller and it still seemed serviceable (all in one piece, not too stiff). I did have issues last season with the toilet "clicking" but not going at all and every time it was solved by lubricating that impeller, so maybe that is indeed the problem.

It's just kind of weird that this year it's flushing fine but not drawing water.

Frankly as Vic knows, I'm dying to replace this head altogether, I've just put all non-necessary expenses on hold until times are brighter.
 
If you're having trouble with it starting you might have a bad connection, and simply not getting enough amps to the motor. OR it could be a motor going bad. Hope for the first.

Think about simply removing the raw water impeller and connecting an external diaphragm pump (with strainer) to provide the water to the bowl. It's a whole lot quieter, and pretty much trouble free. I used a Shurflo Blaster, though a ParMax 3 should do just as well. Basically you're simply converting to a "Quiet Flush".
 
I too have that Jabsco conversion and really should upgrade to the Marine Elegance at some point. Before we left for our big trip, our conversion was clogging on us. It's been about 3 years since I installed it so I figured it was rebuild time. Not a nice job at all, but it's done and the unit is working (knock on wood!). Ernesto, unless I'm missing what you're saying above, you're only looking at one of the two impellers. There's another one at the base of the unit (the nasty place!). The rebuild kit I bought came with both, along with a new switch for the swivel flush control and most of the gaskets and O-rings (it didn't contain all the O-rings for some reason).

To be honest, if I were you and a Marine Elegance fits your application, just change the head. A rebuild of this conversion unit is going to be just as nasty. I would have changed too, but I have an Electro Scan and want to keep my system raw water for the salt. I'm still trying to figure where I'd mount the raw water pump for that version of the Marine Elegance. However, once I figure that out, I might very well convert.

Oh well, at least as you know, these conversions beat that hand pump! Funny related story: I got on a Sunseeker a few years back and the head had the same Jabsco conversion. Can you imagine paying that much for a boat and having that LOUD grinder for a head???
 
thing is it's NOT the grinder that makes all the noise... it's that rb2@gr5ted rubber impeller. Doesn't cost that much to convert to something quieter though.
