I've just spent around $1,000 on a QUIET FLUSH CONVERSION kit for my Jabsco 37010 Electric Head.

Anyone considering one of these should hear one in operation before parting with their hard earned cash, as the macerator operation is still quiet noisy.

I estimate that the kit has only reduced the noise level by around 15%.

Since the advertising brochure says "Makes flushing your toilet quiet as a household system", I questioned a local Jabsco dealer who says - "But FLUSH is the operative word in the brochure - not the evacuation operation ! " [:-sick] (and agreed, the engine room mounted Raw Water Flush pump is extremely quiet)

Hhhhmmmmm.....I'll read the glossy advertising a little closer next time ! !

Odd. The macerator on my Jabsco is just a centrifugal pump with a chopper; and it's pretty quiet, unless it's got some foreign material in it. But it IS a pump and it's never as quiet as a household toilet.

What kind of noises are you getting?

Wayne, with electric toilets, most of the noise comes from the raw water pump. As a general rule, the macerator and discharge pump (contrary to popular assumption) doesn't make much noise at all. The only obvious noise you should hear is the sound of water rushing, and a sort of "slurping" sound when the toilet actually empties as the water is pulled down out of the toilet bowl and you can momentarily hear the sound of the pump when there's no water in the bowl - very similar to the sound a household toilet makes when it flushes. I wonder if there might be something wrong with the one you bought - I don't buy the explanation that was given to you by your local dealer; not at all!

Thanks Guys,

I'm sure, being new, that there's no foreign matter caught in the pump, and it seems to be pumping quite well.

The gurgle at the end is not a problem. The noise that I get is kind of a low pitched rumble, almost the same as an electric anchor windlass raising chain, even when it's emptying water only. It's loud enough that it wakes people sleeping at both ends of the boat.

The area where the head is installed is on a dual layer of hull (GRP), like a 8 inch high tunnel that runs the length of the interior cabin, and I'm surprised that the motor assembly is bolted straight onto the floor, i.e. no rubber mounts, so I think that most of the noise is resonance echoing thru this tunnel.

A neighbour also has one of these on order, I'll compare the two and see if they are both the same.
