Schell, Joan D. "Joanie"
Stockton, CA
June 28, 1935 - March 20, 2007
Joan D. Schell, "Joanie" to her family and friends, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 after a lengthy illness. She was a lifelong Stockton resident. Joanie was the wife of noted author and map maker of San Joaquin Delta, Hal Schell, who preceded her in death last year. She was the woman behind the man, as Hal became a successful writer and teller of tales of the Delta. Joanie will be remembered for her beauty, graciousness, and warmth. She was famous for her great gatherings on their boat, "Delta Dawdler". She enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. Joanie is survived by children, Kathleen Lipelt (Don), Sharon Nelson (David), Joseph L. Klein (Laurie). Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Aaron Wright, Danielle and Jerimiah Nelson, Clayton and Cory Klein (Jessica), Joey Klein and Carl Boski. She also had two great-grand-daughters.
There will be no services, as per her request. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Discover the Delta Foundation", PO Box 609, Isleton, CA 95641.

May she join Hal and rest in peace. Thanks for the posting, I have often wondered how she was doing after Hal's passing.

Super Lady, she always had something positive to say about everybody.

So sad to hear.

At least they are once again together.

My deepest condolencses to the Family...the Delta community has lost another Great Person.

I'm sorry I never had an oportunity to meet her in person. She was greatly loved and cared for by Hal until his stroke. God bless them both!
