Joan D. Schell, "Joanie" to her family and friends, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 after a lengthy illness. She was a lifelong Stockton resident. Joanie was the wife of noted author and map maker of San Joaquin Delta, Hal Schell, who preceded her in death last year. She was the woman behind the man, as Hal became a successful writer and teller of tales of the Delta. Joanie will be remembered for her beauty, graciousness, and warmth. She was famous for her great gatherings on their boat, "Delta Dawdler". She enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. Joanie is survived by children, Kathleen Lipelt (Don), Sharon Nelson (David), Joseph L. Klein (Laurie). Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Aaron Wright, Danielle and Jerimiah Nelson, Clayton and Cory Klein (Jessica), Joey Klein and Carl Boski. She also had two great-grand-daughters.
