I received this from someone at my club:

At the HRYBCA meeting last night, we were informed that the local authorities: Coast Guard, Sheriffs, etc, will be conducting 'practice' blockades along several points on the river in which ALL vessels will be stopped. This will take place through THIS week AND weekend.

There is also no guarantee that if you get stopped once, that you will not be stopped again during this exercise!

Thats all I have.

So all boaters have to be delayed so they can practice????? That sounds quite unbelievable and unfair.

Well, as long as it isn't between Haverstraw and Croton then it shouldn't be an issue...

That is wide area to block - maybe we can go around them on the way to Croton.

What a way to make friends with the boating public!

Will they be bringing back the revolutionary war chain?

(Or is someone just pulling one? ;))

Yep, that's what I was thinking!! They did something similar during the RNC, we were detained under the BMB but they didn't board, just asked questions.

What's the big deal? Cops set up random check points for DWI, etc all the time. And they usually do it on holiday weekends. Ever get caught in one of those traffic jams?

This is not the first time this happened. On our way back from NJ once, we saw a cutter on the hook south of the TZB. Several smaller boats along side and nearby. I think it was two years ago.
On the north later on we heard many horror stories about boaters needing flares and such..

It's a big deal cause we like to get really sh!t faced and drive the boat around.. Getting arrested would put a damper on the weekend...

Yeah, I got an e-mail from John Vargo about this yesterday. Nothing like that up this way..... at least not yet.

Let's keep eachother posted on it. It would be interesting to see what they are asking for. Routine safety and sobriety tests?

I can see where that may be a problem for you Sweetness. In that case, I would suggest that you just keep going and not bother stopping. Pay no attention to all the blue lights and the M16's on the bows of the orange RIB's. They aren't loaded.

Thats good... I hope you do know that I was kidding..

I think if they are going to try this it will have to be North of the TPZ Bridge? There is just too much traffic further South? Can you imagine them doing this in the NYC Area Harbor? No way possible without a real emergency.

Aren't they landlocked?

I assumed you were kidding. I was too. The M16's are always loaded.

Soon law enforcement will begin patrolling the local marina's and issue open container violations to us all...
