Our kids are grown, but this holiday we had the neighbors and their kids aboard. It was a hoot. The Admiral and I tend to be pretty quiet, so the decibel level was definitely up. We were constantly peppered with questions from "Are we going fast?" to "What does dog throw-up look like?" They were so bursting with enthusiasm and their mom reported that they were smiling all the way home. They enjoyed swimming with our dog until they saw a crab! You'd have thought they'd seen a great white shark.

Then Monday we rafted up with friends who have kids ranging from 8 to 14. The joy of "cannonballing" each other seems to know no age limit. We grilled out together and took turns with their Waverunner.

In general, we enjoy our quiet weekend retreats, but it was a great fun to throw a little spice into our otherwise bland old-folks-only diet.

Hope you guys had as much fun as we did.

We had a blast with the kids the last couple of weeks - we used the big boat as a floating condo and home base, and took my son and his friends out sailing in the little sailboat, or fishing in the Glastron. And we swam, rode bikes, and had a lot of fun!!!

If your kids are afraid of crabs, let 'em try the eels that occasionally come along and take a nibble while they're swimming up in our creek!!!

No matter how you slice it, though, boating is a BLAST! That's why we keep coming back to this insanely expensive, work-intensive hobby every friggin' year! I was cleaning the boats until 3AM the other night!!!

About the time I get really fed up with boat maintenance and bills, we have a weekend like this one where everyone has fantastic, memorable experience and I'm sucked right back in to loving boating. Can't wait till I get back to the boat tonight.

Have a good weekend.
