After reading about "Venting - Shoddy Work", I thought it necessary to mention Walton's marine service. I took our old Carver to the yard on Bruno's island and was helped by John the manager at that site. The main yard is in back of Delta marina in Rio Vista and run by Bob Walton.
Though the rain was coming down and the weather made it difficult for them to work they did whatever they could between rain drops. Our boat was out of the water for about a month after the survey was performed there and I picked the items that Walton's would work on. They did everything I asked for and did what was necessary without hiding anything or surprising me and kept in contact by phone. Anything extra was discussed and a verbal go ahead granted, though cost wasn't discussed. My feelings were if it needed it, it should be repaired and they seem to be fair and honest so the price is what is it is, pay it or don't do it.
Since I am not very close to the Delta I can only come out on weekends to work on the boat and John was more than willing to allow me access. On two occasions Bob Walton came out to see what was going on and we me and talked for a while and have to say they are good guys and are honest. I don't know how their rates compare to other places but I got what I needed and didn't get screwed, that is worth something to me.
In addition since John doesn't have a mechanic employed he has one that will come out and work in his yard. Dave Stringer of Stringer's mobile Marine Service did the mechanical work and I feel did what was needed, stayed in contact and informed me of other items that needed repairing and did it. His estimate was almost spot on with exception to a few add-on's and the work was right.
Once the boat was splashed again we took it to Oxbow it's new home and I discovered the bilge pump wasn't working. I called John on Monday and told him and on Tuesday he went to Oxbow to inspect the pump and float and replaced a blown fuse. Walton's stands behind their work and I don't think I could be much more satisfied and would highly recommend them to anyone as I would for Stringer's mobile Marine Service.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
