Hey everyone,

I will be moving my boat from the NJ shore to Lake George this year. I have normally kept it at a marina in NJ and trailered it to LG for my two visits every summer. This year, we have decided to keep it at LG full time.

I am looking for a slip but I am trying to limit my costs. I am off from work every other week during July and August. Becasue of sports camps etc, I will be at LG for no more than 4 days at a time, for those 4 weeks.

Based on that, I don't really need to have my boat in the water the whole summer but I dont want to have to take in and out every day when I'm up there. I am looking at Boats by George because they have rack storage. I am also looking to find any private dock owner who may have a slip to rent for a reasonable price.

If you know of someone who has a slip and maybe interested in renting, please let me know or forward my information to them. I have a 2003 Monterey sport cruiser, 25'. The boat is in great condition (not an eyesore) and we are a quiet family of four. We would just get on the boat and be gone for the day. I can also take the boat out on the days I am not there. I have a place where I can store it on my trailer when not there.

Thanks in advance.

The last I heard, the rates were over $120 per foot at most marinas up there. Your best bet is with a private property owner loooking for some extra cash. I would try to post an ad on Craig's List and see what happens.

FYI. Lake George has some special requirements for boats. No bottom paint, gray water can not discharged, etc.

I was aware of the no grey water discharge, but no bottom paint...are you sure that is correct?
I did find this: Boats painted with anti-fouling paint containing TBT (Tributylin) are not allowed on Lake George, unless the paint was applied in New York State by a registered Commercial Pesticides Applicator. See NYS DEC website for more details on regulations for anti-fouling bottom paint: http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/8855.html

I have been going up to LG for the past seven years and I am aware of the restrictions. I think that's what keeps that lake so pristine.

Anyway, I am still looking for a private owner who's looking to make some extra cash if they have a spare slip. If you know anyone, please point them in my direction.

Thanks again.

Bolton Landing Marina also has rack storage. I believe their rates were ~$2k for 6 months. I don't have the email anymore to get the exact figure.

The cheapest wetslip I was ever able to find was $2100 flat rate at Dunhams Bay Marina, and that's for boats that can fit under a bridge that clears the water by 59". They have dry dockage for $1k, but again your boat has to fit under the 59" high bridge

My brother rents a slip at a private house on the lake, a little south of Bolton Landing, and it's around $4500 for his 31' boat

mrubino,

Great info, thanks. Does your brother or you know of a place that locals may advertise their slips for rent or that I can post a "looking for a slip" post? I have surfed the net looking for LG forums etc but no luck. I have checked all the LG websites and still no go. If your brother knows anyone looking to rent, please let me know. Thanks again.

I tried once and they flagged and removed my post. Not sure why. I am not a big user of Craiglist. Anyway, you motivated me to try again and I reposted (hopefully the right way this time). We'll see what happens. Thanks.

Try it under one of these listings...I have had some good experiences with CL...Good Luck!
