Lake Okeechobee

What's the deal with Lake O? I know it's huge but I hear it's pretty shallow. Is it a marked body of water? I have a 22 foot Proline with 200 outboard, is there a good deal of boating room up there? I've never been and I'm wondering if it's worth the trip.

normally there is but this year lack of rain has almost closed the lake.
