I have always kept the cabin door and windows shut during the winter (boat is shrunk wrapped). I was debating if it would be better to leave the cabin door open just to let air circulate. Do you all close up or leave it open?

For what it is worth I leave cabin door shut. I have the front cabin hatch open, the aft cabin hatch open and the two ports in the galley open. I use the kitty litter and damp rid mix in 6 shoe box sized box to suck up moisture.

I would not leave the cabin door open. On the odd chance that something happens to the shrink wrap (tree branch falling etc), you could have a big mess.

I like to leave a few hatches open under the wrap, better to have air flowing in and out of the boat IMHO.

My marina leaves the bathroom and aft cabin doors open, as well as the fridge, but the cabin door is closed.

Hey Guys,

On my Wellcraft 2001 Martinique 2600, I keep the window open with the screen in on the aft cabin. This supplies air to everything and if the shrink wrap fails, tree branch, cuts, whatever-the cabin is protected. Happy Holidays All!

I leave the cabin door closed, but I leave the head door, fridge, all drawers, and cabinets open. I leave all of the hatches open slightly for air circulation.

I know this is an old topic, but I think it's important to note that keeping doors/hatches open really depends on where your boat is stored and what color the wrap is. If you are in a cold climate like Minnesota and you have blue wrap, the constant temperature swings under the wrap from day to night will be trouble inside the cabin. This is especially true if your wrap isn't ventilated properly. Our boat was just wrapped yesterday and there are no vents installed. That marina better get that corrected! :)

I agree with the main door closed but the rest shoul be cleaned and open Fridge, Ice maker, bath room, drawers, and acouple hatches or windows slightly open. shrink wrap a must should have vent on the highest and lowest points and proportional to the lenghts.

I leave the cabin door closed but leave the windows open, head door open, prop open the table seats, and even prop open the engine hatch with a PFD. I also pay to get extra vents installed on my shrink wrap. I think another key is to soak up any bilge water with a towel so the bilge starts out the winter dry. Actually my boat was just wrapped so I'll be down there this weekend with a towel.

I button up my cabin. I use 2 mildew control bags and 2 containers of Damp-Rid/Cat litter. Both of these would become less effective if doors and hatches were opened. I open all cabinets and lift up all the cushions. I rely on Mother Nature to create air circulation as the boat warms up under the sun. All I want is for some air circulation, from inside the boat. Once the moisture is pulled from the air and the mildew control bags emit their chemical, there is no need to circulate the air from the outside and do it over again.

If you leave the cabin door open, won't you invite rodents etc to nest in your boat?

Just wondrin.
