Friday night at dusk I saw a Contra Costa Sheriff's boat heading southeast on Piper Slu at Bethel Island. He had left the Rusty Porthole area, going towards Sugar Barge/Paradise Bar & Grill. I saw him pull over a boat near the seawall opening. I could only see the lights of each boat. After about 20 minutes, the detained boat left and went on his way while the sheriff boat went out the opening and tucked in near the seawall on the Franks Tract side.

I don't know if he did the same on Saturday night.

If you transverse that area at night to avoid DUI on Bethel Island, beware of BUI on the water!

Liz,

I appreciate the warning and will keep it in mind, but I'm surprised that you warned anybody. As a USCGA member, I would have thought that you'd be all in favor of the sneak attack on BUI's. Those tactics could really cut into the profits for Bethel Island watering holes.

Frankly, I'm glad to see the stepped up patrols for I see far too many inebriated boaters going past my slip after dark. At the same time I wanted to give my friends who read this forum a heads up. My USCGA affiliation did not enter into my decision.

The smart boater will stay overnight at the dock and return safely to home port stone sober.

i saw the same thing at old sac 2 weeks ago
i stayed there 3 nights, i was almost every small boat operator being young and had a few leave the dock at dusk or night at 10pm
more were checked out by police boat

i am glad to see this, iam sure its more of a problem with smaller boats that do the wake board thing
