Let the fun begin!

I draw 3 1/2 feet and try to plan an hour on either side of low but i have been at SPBM for over 15 years and have come and gone many times at low tide and never dinged a prop. Threw up some silt for sure which I don't like but that's about it. Don't get me wrong, deep water is a great feature that I would love to have but not critical to most boats in the soft bottom of Haverstraw Bay.
 
WOW!!! I never realized that Haverstraw was that much more money!!! I guess they need to charge more to pay for all those lengths of dock that you have to walk to get to your boat.
 
Here we go again. The battle of the marinas. One of my favorite threads. It's not the docks, it's the fire insurance.

I draft 4 1/2 feet and I ran aground near the entrance to the channel coming from the River side 1 1/2 hours before low tide, I had to recondition the props after. At low tide my props were in the mud while in my slip. With a Spring tide the boat was sitting on the bottom and wasn't even floating. Hank I really enjoyed the marina I never had any real issues (well maybe one) I loved the view but not being able to use my boat anytime I want during such a short season just wasn't cutting it. If I ever down size I would consider moving back.

Hogan I had the furthest walk in my last marina and yes the current walk is a bit further but with all the wind we have had lately my boat is sitting nice and calm in my slip it has been a pleasure. It will only get better as more people launch and fill in the slips around me plus I look forward to meeting new people and making new friends. So far everyone has been very nice.

Last night I made plans to use the boat this Friday and the best part was I didn't have to consult the tide chart before making these plans. (worth it weight in gold)

LOL, Yep, I saw that! He probably felt inadequete because we had bigger boats than his make believe 43

Low water sucks, I was checking my tide chart for the weekend...

See....that's the problem. You followed the channel markers. Everyone knows that those markers dont represent where the actual channel is.

Hank- I see the channel is marked already this year. The colors look right too. That's a good start. Do you think they're in the right place?
 
I suspect they are still in from last year so there is a fair chance they have drifted over the winter. I need to lobby for some lights on them this year as well. It's vey tough finding them on dark nights.
 
To be in the channel you have to stay close to the green buoys. I have the coordinates for the outer end of the channel in my GPS. I head for that spot on the way out. On the way in I head straight in from that spot. That keeps me in the channel, or as Robyn's Nest said last year, our suggestion of a channel. If you want them I'll post them here or walk over and give them to you the next time I see you.
 
The coordinates are,N41'14.007 and W073'58.117 for the outer end of the channel.
Someone from G dock put small solar powered lights on the buoys last year. I think there's one or two left.
 
Yea those are things I won't miss:) The people the view the shorter walk the less money are all pros but the balance scale gets stuck in the mud so it's never going to weigh even.
 
The deep water is a plus for sure! I miss gunning the throttles in the current/wind & not seeing a drop of muck turned up in that 18 feet at low tide!! I even more so miss a full finger dock...my finger dock barely covers half my boat right now...that sucks. But still I don't miss that hike to the boat!! I prefer to do my hiking in the woods in Oct/November...not to my boat in the heat of July/August!!!

I finally left the dock and had a nice ride up to West Point. Returned and had dinner at the the Marina restaurant nice meal and I didn't have to drive anywhere, big plus.
 
What a joy it was sleeping on the boat last night. Very relaxing for sure.
