This will be a new sticky. No-one can post here but the moderator, but if you would like to add info please forward it to the moderator who, will review it and add it. The goal of this section is to list info that is common to this forum. There always seems to be a need during the season for certain information, and if your like me, you have to search the forum to find it. This will keep it on top! So now when someone says, where can I go eat on Fire Island by boat, just say, go check LIBI!
1) Boatered LICC Roster
2) Favorite Anchorages
please email me your favorite anchorages with gps coordinates and chart picture with "X" marking location.
Hemlock Cove - Located along the state boat channel, turn south at Green 41 Pole. Most of cove is deep water except when you get close to shore. SouthEast Corner is nice. When coming in stay east of pole there, big sandbar west of pole.
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g97/djr59/HC.jpg
Garbage Cove/Coast Guard Cove - Another good cove, though tough to find a place to go ashore. Located just west of Hemlock.
Sore Thumb - Located to the right of Fire Island Inlet when heading South to Ocean. Nice beach. Last report said you could not go on beach, not sure if that is still true. Watch your anchor position as I have seen boats get beached here when tide goes out.
Barrett's Beach - On Fire Island, West of Davis Park. Alot of boats anchor and wade in. Bathrooms available and facilities as it is a park.
Watch Hill - National Park. Great place. Access to beach. Bar, restuarant. Located just south of Patchogue on Fire Island. Cost is $1.75/foot plus electric. Reservations accepted for that day only.
Sailors Haven - National Park. Not alot of slips. Sunken Forest is here. Cherry Grove is short and interesting walk (say Hi to Walter if you go, he is in third bush on right) Good restaurants in Cherry Grove. Slips on West side are shallow. Good Anchorage just outside, water is clear and bottom is sandy.
Kismet - Fee for docking with credit towards food at the Inn. There is also the out and a pizza place. Not much else here, but good eats. General Store and small town.

3A)Other resturants you can boat too:
JD's on the Bay. 516.208.6075
Near the BWYC in Merrick. They have a 60' sea wall to tie to and he is working with the BWYC to use their gas dock after hours so call first and they'll meet you at the dock to help.
4) Best time to go through Moriches Bay
Another source I use is www.saltwatertides.com/pickpred.html I add about 2 hours to the Moriches inlet high tide or Moriches Coast Guard Station. Anything within an hour of either side of these times is safe. Do not cut buoys. Keep red 18 on your right when heading east!
5) How to navigate Shinnecock Locks
Shinnicock Locks
The locks are open 24 hours a day. The Lock Operator controls all movements of
boats by light signals and horns. The Lock Operator can be reached at
631-852-8299.
When approaching the locks, boaters should see light trees. Green: Lock is ready
craft may advance. Red: Crafts must wait. No Light: Crafts must wait. Six
flashes of Red or Green: Remain stopped and await further instructions.
On Entering the lock chamber, boats should move as forward as possible to make
room for others. Have your fenders and lines ready prior to locking. Do not tie
your lines instead just loop over the wall cleat and adjust as the water level
rises/falls depending.
As soon as the water in the lock reaches the proper level the gates will open.
Proceed at a reduced speed as the canal is no wake zone. That being said, when
the locks are open the current can flow very quickly, stay on your power and
ignore the no wake zone.
It is actually easier to lock through when the gates are open than
closed but only for small boats. The current flows hard at times and ifyou have a larger boat it may be wise to lock through when the gates are closed your 1st time.
Some tips:
When the gates are closed boats will start lining up awaiting their turn to
enter the lock. Do not cut the line. Keep your boat off the walls and any nearby
boat. Do not crowd other boaters. The canal gets tight when the wind is east or
west. Have your lines and fenders ready prior to entering the canal. Move as
forward as possible when the lock opens and you get your turn.

10) Bridge Openings:
To request a bridge opening at the Wantagh, Medowbrook or Loop Pkwy bridges call the DOT at 631-904-3050. They will call the bridge operator directly via cell phone and you can have the operator open the bridge requested. The Wantagh Pkwy bridge is back to a regular schedule as of the last week of May. I called last Saturday for an opening and an updated schedule. They said they would also open on demand if traffic was lite. It pays to call ahead so you can get the operator to be there waiting for you and then have him go on to the next bridge for you so you wont have to wait long.
11) BLOCK ISLAND CROSSINGContributed by JohnC:
I've mentioned this before but it's worth repeating. Conditions between Montauk and Block are greatly affected by which way the tide is running. If the wind is out of the south or if there is a big southerly swell waves will be much higher and steeper on an outgoing tide. If the weather is marginal try to make the run on an incoming tide assuming a southerly wind direction (check high tide times at Montauk). The same day with the same wind can generate completely different conditions depending on the tide. Most days the trip is not a big deal, but if you decide to run it with a 20 knot SE wind against an outgoing tide it's not going to be nice there.

Westhampton Beach Town Dock
Pros: A very well protected marina in the town of West Hampton beach with a park like atmosphere. Just behind your boat are BBQ's on a very large lawn and a nice gazebo to just hang out in. The showers and bathrooms are kept very clean. The docks have very nice plants and tall grass along the edge adding to the marine costal feel. The beach is in walking distance, but a short cab ride may be the easiest method. A free pass will be given to you by Frank the dock master upon your request. The town is only a few blocks away and the walk down the shady streets is very enjoyable. On Library road you will pass a local fruit stand which is a must stop, the tomatoes and fruit taste like you just picked them yourself. There is an abundance of stores for shopping and also many restaurants to choose from, you may need to just pick one and go for it. Some of my favorites are Magic's Pub, The Patio, Starr Boggs, The Post Stop and the Margarita Grill.
Westhampton Beach, Town Dock (631-288-9496) Ch-68 Dock Master
Cons: If coming from the west you must navigate the Moriches Bay with some skinny water. But if you follow the tides and the local posts on Boater Ed, you will have no problem. They only have 10 Transient slips, so planning a group trip may be difficult. However, Frank will make every effort to accommodate you, but reservations need to be made well in advance.
