Local Land Based Knowledge Request (Hotels)

Hi everyone. We are attending a wedding in May in Dix Hills. The festivities are at a private home, but the Huntington Hiltonin Melville is the recommended hotel. Looked a bit pricey ($200 for a Saturday) for consistently very erratic on-line reviews. Anyone have an opinion on this place or a recommendation for something better for the rice or "good but cheaper?" .

Unfortunately we are only there briefly, one nighter, but will try to revisit some of the spots we used to love to cruise to on the boat.
 
Plenty of local hotels close to Dix Hills cheaper than the Hilton.
Even on Route 110 there up the road is a courtyard and the Melville Marriott.
There is a residence inn in Hauppauge.
If you don't care about amenities, then go with one of those.
Any hotel room on Long Island will run $129+
 
was recently visiting some friends who stayed at the hilton, garden inn in plainview (on round swamp road). nice hotel. not sure of the prices.
 
Thanks guys, will check those out. Any further suggestions welcome. The price isn't so much an issue, it just didn't sound like that great a place, but one has to take on-line reviews with a grain of salt. Hilton Garden Inns and Courtyards are usually very nice, given the wedding, we won't need the full service hotel amenities.
 
stick with the above mentioned hotels. 150 to 200 a night is going rate here on L.I. You might try going thru Price Line or Orbitz but do not go for a cheap no name motel you will be sorry.
 
The Hyatt at the Wind Watch Golf club is really nice.
I just looked and they have a $169 a night rate.
Must be cheap bc golf is out of season.
It's close to dix hills, but further east.

There is also a marriott across the street.
 
Thanks, will check out the Hyatt. I stay in hotels maybe 30 nights a year, way down from the road warrior days of 100+. I expect to pay 200ish in NY even on a weekend. A lot more in the city on a week day. Just want it to be pleasant.
