What location would you recommend for a picnic on the Delta?

I would like it to be easy to get to from say the Walnut Creek area by car, a beach with sand, close to decent waters for water skiing. We will have several boats already in the water, so a launch is not required.

Thanks,

Kris

Kris,

Might be too far, but Tower Park has great facilities if you are going to spend a camping weekend, and there is great ski water right around the corner. If you look at a map, from Tower Park, follow the river under the Highway 12 bridge, veer to the right, and just around to the right again is a fun little puplic camp ground that has lots of room and is usually pretty quiet, room on the docks for lots of ski boats, and camp sites as well. Never stayed there, but stumbled on it last year.

Don't know much of beaches down your way, but there is always Lost Isle - totally crazy but no car access. Have a great time!

Brannan Island State Park is hard to beat for a family event. This will meet all of your requirements.

For an adults only picnic, there is always Lost Isle. Access by boat only.

I almost forgot this one because it's right next door to our marina. Delta Bay Resort is just across the levee from Delta Bay Marina. The resort has RV/camping/picnic facilities. Right next door to Spindrift Marina and Restaurant.

You might also take a look at Hogback Recreation area. They have vast expanses of lawn, good ski water nearby and plenty of parking. I believe the day use fee is also very reasonable. You don't say where the boats are. That could make a difference at today's fuel prices.

As far as beaches go: there are tons of beaches at low tide---especially if there are minus tides. But as the tides roll in, the beaches usually disappear. You might want to check the tide cycle for the days you will having your event and plan accordingly.

Have a great time. We'd love to here back from you after the event: what was good; what was bad; what was unexpected.
