Macy's 4th of July Fireworks - Anyone going?

Its weird - She likes going to the boat and wants to go but once we start moving its a whole new story. She was white knuckled holding onto my wife who was trying to hold my son in his car seat just on the way to Croton. Cant be fun for my wife either. Once at Croton it was not too bad but she got ansy towards the end of the day. I am hoping this is a just a 3 year old phase.

Going to try and take a longer run with her on Sunday - Maybe down to Striped bass or something to see how she acts.

Hopefully she will outgrow it & get her sea legs soon.
Jon

Probably just a phase. My son (now 8) last year whenever we got on plane he would either hide in the cabin or sit on the floor. This year I had him steering the boat from the first time out and he seems a little more comfortable this year. I wouldn't go packing it in just yet.

Rob, Just this past weekend we had the same issues with my son. it must be a three year old fear. last year all he wanted to do was go fast, this year he clutches his mother. who knows, maybe next year he'll be fighting me for the helm.

I gave up for now. If they want to go out on the boat then we will. If not I will try to take it out myself when I can. I was out this weekend with some work friends and had a good time. I am going to try for Friday's Bear Mountain fireworks and then that will be it for the weekend probably.

79 th, street boat basin $1.25 ft. first come first serve for moorings, said there open 24/7 someone always there also.
Marina transient slips $2.75 ft. also first come first serve, not bad for manhattan i guess , never been but hear the water is shallow in the marina ?
Looks like thats where we are headed after Macys for the night unless something better comes along..... bye,Jon

I can't imagine 79th Street being much better than Chelsea Piers since there is no breakwater. Did you try/think about Lincoln Harbor, supposedly they have some protection.

Has anyone heard any updates on the "waterfalls" which were supposed to be an artistic display under the Brooklyn Bridge this summer? The plan was to come home Sunday up the East River to see them.

Yea i know there is no sea wall and most dont like that , but believe it or not we like rocking on the swells so were going for a morring ;). Hanging there on purpose to watch the cars and the city go by ,my boat is small last time i was at lincoln harbor we couldn't see much except for transoms & bows :)
the water falls sound cool , never heard about that myself though ...Jon

Good link Bill. The warterfalls are all over the news and newspapers this morning! The Poughkeepsie Journal even had a story. Looks like there are 4; Brooklyn Bridge(2), just North of the Manhatten Bridge and the tip of Governors Island. Fortunately we can catch them this trip.

I've been in 79th street basin a few times. The water does get shallow at low tide. It's news to me that there is no seawall at the marina, I remember having to go around it to get in. The moorings seem like a good deal. The reason we pick 79th street when we take the boat to work is the fact it is north of most ferry runs. The ferries really stir up the lower hudson, not as much up at 79th street so it should be calmer than Chelsea.

Good catch Walshie on the wall , I'm cheaping out on this trip and swinging on a morring mostly cause it's close , i don't like going faster than hull speed at night & stony point is a lomg ride back for me. Thanks for the info. on 79th st , mabey it will be calm enough to not spill to many beers......:) +Jon+

Jon, it should be calm at night when the ferry traffic calms down. You'll have the barges and recreational traffic to deal with though. I'm not sure when the circle line stops running at night. There's a very interesting looking restaurant there at 79th street right across from the marina restaurant. I'm not sure if they serve breakfast but it's worth checking it out while you are there. It's built under the park, open on two sides and well hidden from most of Manhattan.

Breakfast huh ? have to look into that and get back to you.
A friend of mine owns a resturant on 11th between 5th & 6th, when ever i go there i borrow his bicycle and ride up the bike path & have seen the resturant , lotsa action on that path espiecally at night when all the freaks come out, it can be fun people watching at times . never know what you'll see in the city right .
thanks again & take it easy man...jon

We can't. The enclosure is not done, and we have to work the day before so since it takes two days, we cannot make it. Bummer. Hopefully in the summer of 09 we can do some more of these shows,

Anyone going down and coming back to the Haverstraw area that night? We are thinking about going down but have to be home for Saturday morning early.
