Hello and happy new year to all! In the past, you have been helpful...maybe someone has an opinion on this?

I have a 3 year old (but 2002 model year) Searay 225 Weekender. It's an Alpha One with a 260 hp 5.0L MPI engine. I bought the boat in April 2004 with only 1 season and 55 hrs. It was purchased and maintained at the dealer. ALL routine maintenance (& then some!) is performed and no expense is spared. I check all fluid levels every time we go out even fed it hi-test gas at $4/gallon last yr!

Today I was told that my u-joint/bellows seal had failed and is filled with drive fluid (makes sense; I kept losing drive fluid last yr., but never saw it in the bilge) and that the Passport Premier extended warranty might not cover it due to "wear and tear." They wanted to see pictures of the inside of the drive to make a final determination.

The boat has ~130 hrs. on it. I was quoted a very large (to ME anyway) amount of money for the repair. I understand most of the tech stuff, but cannot do any of the repairs myself.

What is bothering me is that I was told that this is "very common" for a 3 yr. old boat, and that there was nothing that I could have done to prevent it. Last yr. when the took the boat out of the H20 after our 1st season, the gimbal bearing was cracked (about 40 hrs. ago). I have never had a grounding and I stay out of the shallows at all costs.

Does this sound right? Money is particularly tight...I have to have it repaired...but I'm not sure about the cause and whether it's right for the age & condition (which is MINT). Any feedback would be awesome.

Thanks for your help!
