I currently rent a slip in Middle River and while we like our marina, I'm half tempted to look into a marina downtown. My rate for my current slip is $2200 for a 30'. We have transit rented at Baltimore Marine Center before. While it is a very nice marina, it was a long haul to the slip, parking on the street was sometimes difficult to find, and I think they are quite expensive ($4,000 for yearly rent, I think).

Suggestions for a marina and what their annual dues are (our kids rarely used the pool at our current marina but otherwise looking for a family friendly environment).

Are there good places close to downtown to anchor and float in the water (we typically hang out currently at Hart Miller which is 5 minutes from our slip or Fairlee Creek)?

Daniel.....just an opinion that I wouldn't float in the water anywhere near Baltimore Harbor. I have seen everything from dead rats, cats and other garbage coming from the city storm drains into the Harbor.....

Ditto on what bradt said. The waters anywhere near Baltimore Inner Harbor are not my idea of a nice swimming hole. Will carp even swim there??? ;)

Thanks guys. I didn't really mean anchoring and swimming around inner harbor. I was thinking once you get past the bridge, is there somewhere close? We spend most of our time just hanging out in the water even if it's for a couple hours and it wouldn't make sense to me to spend 1/2 hour to boat up to somewhere like Hart Miller just to hang out for a couple of hours.

Dan,

The closest areas for anchoring out would be in either Curtis, Rock, Stoney and bit further, Bodkin Creeks. I have done the latter 3 but no swimming. Not only because we don't think the general area waters are all the healthy to venture into, the sea nettles have been bad last few years.

Dan, unless you are interested in the downtown activities (dinning & nightlife) you are probably better off in Middle River and planning a trip or two to the IH. MR is less expensive and certainly more kid/family friendly for fishing, crabbing, and swimming. MR is also closer to Fairlee, Worton, Rock Hall etc. Middle River is going to be hard to beat for the location & price.

I've got to agree with the above. I've seen people swim in Rock Creek, but it's technically closed due to water issues. There's Bear Creek, but I wouldn't want to swim there either. For us, downtown is a great place as a destination in early spring and late fall. Keeping the boat there would ruin it for us.

You have convinced me to stay put! The difference in cost would pay for several weekend trips to enjoy downtown.

I keep the boat at BMC, and you get free inside/underground parking. We love it there, use the boat to go to baseball games, concerts, and even movies. Cruise through the harbor at 2 AM! No swimming though, except in the very nice pool at BMC. <gg>

Ditto - we were at Anchorage for a year and "moved up" to BMC. Can't say enough great things....
