I was wondering how much this is happening around the country. Out here in Ca there are people with very little fisheries knowlege trying to shut down or turn large areas off limits to fishing. I have a sneaking suspicion it has to do with the anti drilling people along with the tree hugger types trying to solidify and expand the off limit areas to oil drilling. They probably feel that sooner or later the feds will try to get offshore drilling opened up and they're building up layers of protection in the form of turning large areas of of the Pacific coast into National parks and Marine protected areas. This is all affecting the commercial and sport fishing along the Ca coast.
That's not all! The Klamath river had a low return of salmon so this year they're proposing closing salmon fishing along a 1000 miles of Ca and Oregon. It's like the global warming people being in control of the world. IMHO, it's ignorant do-gooders who are given the power and only the information from like minded groups to do as they see fit, to the detriment of the fishing industry.
I'd like each and every member of these councils try to explain their reason to close the largest, most important fishery on the Pacific Coast. One river with poor salmon returns is reason to close the whole state????
