I started this topic on the marine sanitation forum but might be better to be on this forum.

Legislation in Maryland this year will propose a statewide ban on overboard discharge of waste.
This will include treated waste from a Type I MSD units (Lectra San). This could be a serious problem for boaters like me, who have these types of units.

Everyone concerned with this issue should fill out the BoatUS survey:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MarylandMSDSurvey

It makes no sense to force those of us with Type I MSDs to pump out when what we output is cleaner than what the treatment plants will do with our waste.

+1

Just finished it and made it known I was a Virginia boater.

I got a call back from someone in Joe Gill's office in Annapolis (he's the AG assigned to DNR). She confirmed that the head AG (Doug Gansler) is going to push for this. It seems his attitude is that "every little bit helps"). We're going to need to call our representatives as well as get BoatUS to help out (for those of you out of state, try to help pressure BoatUS as they still represent you in MD waters).

Please pass this information, and the survey, along to everyone you can think of who might be affected.

Reading Gansler's bio and affiliations, this is obviously politically motivated grandstanding. In that it is an elected office, can you tell me who his opponent is so I can write to him/her and offer support in the next election. He is up for re-election this year.

"....Mr. Gansler served as the Maryland Co-Chair for the presidential campaign of Senator Barack Obama (D-IL)....."

Speaks volumes.

Every little bit helps only if that little bit is actually a contributor to the problem. Approved MSDs were developed so that they were not contributing to the problem. Its like trying smell a fart in a hurricain!

Maybe MD should ban Geese from the bay. I bet they contribute more to waste dumping than boaters. :)

Craig! You are so right!!! (Funny, but right!)
