Hey Im in the process of buying a boat, a 1999 Four Winns Vista 258 5.7 Volvo DP.
Anyways, the marina that Im buying the boat from says THEY can do the mechanical survey in house but I cannot be present because its back in the shop and for insurance reasons I cant be back there.
My BS meter almost pegged. I insist on being there for a survey and I imagine that everybody else would want to be present for their own survey too. I was allowed in "the back" for the last boat I had surveyed and it was in their shop (different marina).
Another thing: Should a surveyor from the marina you are buying a boat from be trusted 100% to do a survey? I mean they are trying to sell a boat, right? My problem is they could easily cover up or look past any problems that would effect my purchase of their boat. Am I on the right track here folks?
I'd like to think we live in a perfect world but lets face it - honestly these days is too few and too far between.
