I just got a shocking quote for repair and I'd like a sanity check if possible.
I have a 1998 Sea Ray 290 Sundancer with twin Mercruiser 5.7 EFIs and Alpha Gen II outdrives. The motors have approx 400 hours each.
The repair shop is a certified Mercruiser dealer in Annapolis, MD. They are telling me I need to service the outdrives (zincs, impellers etc), replace the belows and shift cables and reseal the drives. This I assume is fairly normal.
They also say that I need to replace the circ pumps, belts, alternator, timing covers, mainfolds, elbows, and risers on the engines.
Question 1: is this normal or reasonable for 10 year old engines with 400 hours?
Question 2: is $5,600 a reasonable bill for the above (including parts and labor)?
Question 3: who is the most reliable repair shop in the area to get a second opinion?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
