I am going to look at a boat today that has 3 years old MERCURY HORIZON 357s. I did some research on these and like what I see. They appear to be Mercury 350 Remans with full system fresh water cooling (including the manifolds) and some other nice features.

Does anyone have any experience with these?

Depends who did the Remans. Most reputable boat mechanics I talk with are not fans of remans. Some good, some terrible.

I know Merc is the gorilla in the kitchen, but I'm not a fan, period. Too many things are too hard to get to for what should be DIY maintenance. The raw water pumps are insane when compared to Crusader or Volvo for impeller replacement.

Mercruiser did the remans, these are direct from MerCruiser

You don't like laying across the top of your engine, stomach, chest getting all scratched up, reaching down, trying to find the raw water pump, and then trying to replace the impeller? All on a 95 degree sunny day? Come on Dave ;-)

Agree with Dave--no black engines for me. For those reasons and more.

I have not been pleased with anything merc and I have owned several types.
