Mercury/Quicksilver Oil Filter Compatibility

Hi Everyone! I have an oil filter for a Mercruiser inboard & stern drive engine; and an oil filter for my Mercury 150 outboard. Totally different part numbers, in fact the box on one says "Fits Mercury outboards" and the other filter box says "Fits inboards & stern drive engines." The filters look exactly alike. Not just in appearance, but dimensionally as well. The obvious answer to "Are these filters interchangeable" would lie with me trying to install the stern drive filter on the outboard. If it fits, it's probably interchangeable, right? I just cannot see any difference between these two filters. Can anyone tell me if they are the same?

Where did you get them? I would be inclined to start fresh with new filters I knew where correct.

I bought the inboard/stern drive oil filters just a few months ago, before I decided to sell that boat and buy an outboard powered boat. So the filters are new.

Merc filters are junk. Cross reference to a Wix or NAPA.
